Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question please email coach@techeconomic.com.

What should my swimmer bring to practice?

A swimmers practice bag should include the following:

  • 2 Goggles
  • 2 Caps (If You Wear Them)
  • 1 Towel
  • 1 Practice Suite
  • 1 Water Bottle
  • 1 Set of Fins (If In Gold Group)
  • 1 Set of Paddles (If In Gold Group)

Goggles and caps will break as the season progresses due to heavy use. They are also lost easily, so please have extra and replenish your supply as needed. An extra suite is also a good idea but because they are costly it was left off the list. For the Gold Group specific items, the YMCA has some paddles and fins but a lot of times they don't have the correct size and by the time they find them we are done with that part of practice so it is best if swimmers have their own.

Why do the coaches stress coming on time to practice?

The coaching staff understands that children are very active these days and conflicts with swim practice do occur. If you have to be late for practice please let the coach know in advance through a note from a parent. If it is a recurring conflict one note is sufficient.

We also understand that occasional lateness will occur due to unforeseen circumstances like traffic, rides, and work schedules.

Frequent lateness to practice for no reason is highly discouraged. Some of the life skills that this sport teaches is time management, self-discipline and sportsmanship. Coming on time reinforces these skills that are necessary later in life.

Lateness that the coaches don't know about and can't plan the practice to accommodate for is disruptive and disrespectful to your fellow teammates. The coach must take time away from the team so a swimmer can be properly warmed up before they can proceed with the workout. Warm up is the first thing done in practice and helps prevent sport injury by giving the body time to ease into the practice. If the coach knows in advance a swimmer will be late they can plan lane space and won't be caught off guard by a swimmer showing up late.

These are the championship YMCA meets where individual YMCA national champions and team national champions are determined. How does my child get entered in swim meets?

The duel meets are scored so the coach will enter swimmers into events that will help the team win the meet. If a swimmer wants to swim a specific event at a duel meet they should talk to the coach. If a swimmer can not make the duel meet they must "sign out" of the meet on the swim team bulletin board. For the invitational and USA Swimming meets swimmers sign up for what they want to swim in the meet at practice.
